‘This security guard is telling me not to live in the apartment if I don’t know Hindi,’ Says A Bangalore Resident

This incident reflects a rising sentiment among locals to protect Kannada culture and language, resulting in frustration towards non-Kannadiga migrants who are not adopting the local language and customs.

The video, first posted by Manjunath on Facebook and later shared on X (formerly Twitter), shows the altercation between the resident and the security guard in a parking area.

He goes on to explain that when he asked the guard to learn and communicate in Kannada, the guard reacted with physical aggression.

Such occurrences have been increasingly frequent in the state, highlighting the tensions between Kannadigas and North Indians. Recently, another viral video featured a woman asserting that if North Indians were to leave the city, many PG accommodations would be left vacant.

Numerous users on X voiced their outrage over the incident, calling for police intervention, while others urged for the prompt establishment of immigration control laws.

Many users on X expressed their dissatisfaction with the situation, demanding a police response, while others advocated for the quick implementation of immigration control measures.

The video has gone viral on social media, prompting immediate reactions from viewers. One user suggested that this should be reported to the apartment management. Many users pointed out that the video lacks specific details about the apartment.

“First of all,we request to our employer to shift our office locations to outside Karnataka Bcz, some people r harassing outsider’s like anything, including govt officials and police, forcing to speak kannada, that is not correct, we came for women for ur company no other purpose,” said another user.

Another user commented,” While it’s important to learn the local language, inability to do so should not be considered a crime!! Due to globalization, people have to travel to different places within India and globally, how is it possible to learn so many languages?”
