Goyal shared on the social media platform “X” that although the company advocates for using AI to boost workforce efficiency, it will not allow AI-generated images to represent dishes in restaurant menus.

Zomato will begin actively removing AI-generated dish images from restaurant menus after receiving numerous customer complaints, CEO Deepinder Goyal announced on Sunday.

In a post on the social media platform “X,” Goyal emphasized that while the company leverages AI to improve operational efficiency, it does not endorse AI-generated images for food items on menus. “AI-generated food images can be misleading, and we’ve received numerous customer complaints on this issue,” Goyal stated. “This can erode trust, increase complaints and refunds, and ultimately result in lower ratings.”

Goyal urged restaurant partners to avoid using AI for menu images and revealed that Zomato will start phasing out such images by the end of the month. “We will also work to detect and prevent the use of AI-generated dish images,” he added.

He also encouraged restaurant owners who have not yet invested in real food photography to contact Zomato’s catalog support team for assistance.

On a related note, Zomato’s stock saw a 1.77% increase on August 16, continuing a strong performance that has delivered a 112.65% return to investors over the past year. In June, the company disclosed that it was in discussions with Paytm to acquire its movies and events businesses.
