Mahalunge, 29th August 2024: A 23-year-old woman lost her husband after he was brutally assaulted by a group of men. The assault occurred at Sai Amrut Lodge in Mahalunge on the night of August 19th, continuing into the early hours of August 20th. Pimpri Chinchwad Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the crime, while two others remain at large.
The deceased, identified as Sanket Ramchandra Gawade, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a local hospital. His wife, who witnessed the attack, filed a complaint at the Mahalunge MIDC Police Station, leading to the arrests.
The suspects arrested are Deepak Madhukar Jadhav (25) from Dighi, Deepak Subhash Sonawane (26) from Mahalunge, Sachin Balaji Chandure (33) from Chikhali, Tejas Sopan Gadhawe (26) from Moshi, and Akshay Maruti Patil (27) from Chikhali. Two other suspects, known only by their aliases, Bunty and Golya, are currently absconding.
The incident began when Sanket and his family were at a restaurant for dinner. As Sanket was settling the bill, his wife and child waited outside. It was at this moment that Deepak Sonawane and his accomplices arrived on a motorcycle and threw a paper chit at Sanket’s wife. When Sanket confronted them about the act, the situation quickly escalated.
The group, enraged by the confrontation, attacked Sanket and later lured him to Sai Amrut Lodge, where the assault continued. Armed with sticks and using their fists and feet, the assailants beat him severely, leaving him unconscious. Despite his wife’s desperate attempts to save him, she too was assaulted before the attackers fled the scene.
Sanket was rushed to the hospital, but his injuries were too severe, and he later passed away. The Mahalunge MIDC Police Station has registered a case against the accused under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 302 (punishment for murder), Section 307 (attempt to murder), and other relevant provisions.
Police Inspector (Crime) Kamble, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the police are actively searching for the remaining two suspects, Bunty and Golya, who are on the run. The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to bring all involved to justice.
