Gautam expressed his frustration regarding the theft in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “There was theft from my main luggage, a gold ring (SIC). There was no lock in my main luggage as the lock was not working, which I realised at the airport. I asked the Delhi airport Air India Desk to put the lock strip which they did not have, and they put the sticker instead.”
He further mentioned, “Invoice of ring and other luggage which was made yesterday is attached with the complaint raised with Airline. Photo of luggage to Pune airport is also sent and Need to be investigated and if there is a loss compensated.” This highlights his concerns about the lack of security for his belongings while traveling and his request for compensation for the loss.
Air India responded to Gautam’s complaint on ‘X’ by stating, “We understand your concern. Please know that valuable items like cash, jewellery, expensive objects, and documents should always be carried in hand baggage. We appreciate your understanding.” This response emphasizes the airline’s policy regarding the handling of valuable items and suggests that passengers should take extra precautions with their belongings.
This isn’t the first instance of valuables being stolen from passengers’ luggage at Pune airport. There have been reports of luggage bags being damaged and torn to access valuables inside.
This highlights the ongoing concerns about luggage security and the responsibility of airlines in ensuring the safety of passengers’ belongings.
