This directive followed Pawar’s recent participation in the Jansamman Yatra, where he interacted with Vadgaon Sheri residents who raised concerns about various civic matters. Among the complaints were the irregular schedules of garbage collection trucks from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the frequent unavailability of municipal ward officers. Residents also reported that PMC officials attributed the inadequate cleaning services to a lack of funding.
In response, Pawar stressed the importance of resolving these issues urgently and directed Commissioner Bhosale to make the necessary arrangements to address the problems without delay.
One of the more urgent issues brought to light was women’s safety. A female resident expressed her concerns about vendors, particularly egg sellers, who set up stalls in front of liquor shops, creating discomfort and safety risks for women passing by. Acknowledging the seriousness of this matter, Pawar instructed Bhosale to enforce strict measures against such encroachments.
Pawar emphasized that even minimal enforcement could lead to significant improvements, suggesting that a mere 5% increase in enforcement could result in a 95% enhancement of the situation. He stressed the need for immediate action to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents.
The meeting where these directives were laid out was attended by notable NCP leaders, including NCP State President Sunil Tatkare, NCP Women Wing President Rupali Chakankar, and MLA Sunil Tingre. Recently, Ajit Pawar’s office followed up with the PMC regarding the progress on the issues discussed with the Commissioner.
