Pune, 28th September 2024: The American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) India, in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate General, Mumbai, has officially inaugurated the Pune Chapter of AMCHAM India, a move expected to further enhance U.S.-India business relations. The launch event, held in Pune, brought together a diverse group of policymakers, business leaders, industry experts, and entrepreneurs, all with a shared objective: strengthening cooperation between the two nations, particularly in technology and innovation.
In his address, U.S. Consul General Mike Hankey emphasized the importance of deepening economic ties between the United States and India. “The trade relationship between India and the U.S. continues to grow stronger and more resilient. By fostering the right partnerships and focusing on innovation, we anticipate the U.S.-India trade to potentially hit $500 billion by 2030. The AMCHAM Pune Chapter is well-positioned to drive collaborative efforts across sectors,” he remarked.
The newly launched Pune Chapter will focus on key growth areas such as sustainable manufacturing, educational collaborations, and promoting women’s economic empowerment. The event highlighted the significant role U.S. companies play in supporting India’s development through technology-driven initiatives.
One of the chapter’s primary goals is to enhance women’s participation in the workforce, with an emphasis on economic empowerment. “For India to unlock its full potential as a global economic leader, it’s critical to create inclusive growth opportunities. U.S. companies, particularly those with a presence in Pune like John Deere and Cummins, are setting benchmarks for empowering women through workforce development programs,” Hankey added.
Along with gender inclusivity, the chapter will also work towards fostering closer ties between academic institutions and industries to advance innovation in fields like artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and sustainable technology. These partnerships are crucial for accelerating economic growth and mutual progress in both the U.S. and India.
Hankey also touched on the importance of balanced regulation, urging businesses to actively contribute to shaping policy. “We need to ensure that regulations protect citizens while also encouraging industries to flourish. It’s essential for businesses to voice their perspectives and help shape policies that foster innovation,” he said.
The establishment of the AMCHAM India Pune Chapter represents a significant milestone in bolstering U.S.-India relations, particularly in emerging sectors like technology and sustainability. By focusing on inclusivity, innovation, and partnerships, the chapter is expected to play a key role in advancing shared strategic goals and nurturing mutually beneficial business relations between the two countries.
