Army Public School Pune Triumphs at English Debate Competition on AI Legal Personhood

Pune, 24th August 2024: Army Public School (APS) Pune has clinched the top spot at the Army Welfare Education Society (AWES) Cluster Level English Debate Competition held on August 24, 2024. Hosted at their own facility, the event featured a heated debate on the topic, “Artificial Intelligence Should Be Granted Legal Personhood and Rights.”

The APS Pune team impressed both the judges and audience with their insightful arguments and eloquent presentations. The team, consisting of Anushka Mehta, Serah Maria Johnson, and Shauryaman Bisht, showcased exceptional debating skills. Shauryaman Bisht was honored as the Best Interjector for his skillful interjections during the debate.

Pavni Goel and Anusha from APS Dehu Road were recognized as the best speakers for and against the motion, respectively. The debate delved into the ethical, legal, and societal ramifications of extending legal personhood to artificial intelligence, reflecting a thorough grasp of the issue’s complexities.

The judges commended all participants for their outstanding preparation and confident delivery. This victory adds to APS Pune’s recent achievements, following their success in the Command Level Hindi Debating competition.
