Camp, 27th August 2024: Sewage water has flooded the street due to the collapse of the main drainage line near the statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and adjacent to the Grand Hotel on MG Road in the Camp area of Pune. As a result, the entire area is experiencing a foul smell and an increase in mosquitoes. Bhojraj Belani, owner of the Grand Hotel, stated that despite repeatedly complaining over the last 15 to 20 days, the issue has been ignored. Belani noted that the problem of sewage on the roads is a recurring issue, creating an unpleasant environment and threatening public health. Residents are forced to wear masks due to the strong stench.
To address the problem, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) ordered a jetting machine for Rs 1,000. However, staff reported that the pipe is not advancing. Complaints have been made to the Pune Cantonment Board via mail and phone calls, but there has been no response. Belani criticized the superficial work done, which failed to resolve the issue, and noted that extensive excavation had been carried out without any explanation. Efforts to contact the health inspector of the Pune Cantonment Board, Pramod Kadam, have been unsuccessful.
