In Pune, the metro extension project has been approved at a cost of Rs 2,954 crore. The project will enable 6 lakh metro passengers to travel from Swargate to Katraj, covering a distance of 5.4 km. The new metro line will have three new stations and will be completely underground.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde hailed the Integral Metro Project as a “historic” move for Thane city and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for sanctioning the project. The Pune Metro Extension Project has been cleared due to the continuous follow-up by CM Shinde.

The new metro line from Swargate to Katraj is expected to be completed by February 2029. The expansion of the metro line from PCMC to Swargate has also been approved.

This development is seen as a significant step towards improving public transport infrastructure in Thane and Pune, two of Maharashtra’s most populous cities. With the central government’s approval, residents can look forward to faster and more efficient travel options in the near future.
