Ganeshotsav Brings Flower Boom: Prices Surge Ahead of Festivities

Other flowers in Pune’s Market Yard are also commanding high prices. Marigold costs ₹50-80 per kg, Shewanti ₹150-200 per kg, Roses (20 flowers) ₹200, Aster ₹250-300 per kg, Hibiscus ₹20 per piece, and Lily ₹50 per kg.

In Mumbai’s Dadar Flower Market, unseasonal rains have affected supply, causing prices to double or even quintuple. Marigold now costs ₹110 (up from ₹40), Rose ₹110 (up from ₹80), Gulchadi ₹1,000 (up from ₹200), Shevanti ₹300-400 (up from ₹100), Hibiscus ₹500 (up from ₹50), Durva Judy ₹30-40 (up from ₹10), Kapri ₹120 (up from ₹50), and Ashtar ₹200 (up from ₹120).

The increased demand for plastic flowers has also impacted traders. With prices blossoming, devotees are advised to plan their purchases accordingly. Ganeshotsav festivities begin tomorrow, and the flower market boom is expected to continue throughout the 10-day celebration.

As the city gears up for the festivities, flower vendors and farmers are reaping the benefits of the increased demand. Devotees, meanwhile, are eager to ensure a grand welcome for their beloved Lord Ganesha.
