Heavy Rainfall to Lash Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal This Week

    Heavy Rainfall Expected in Gujarat and Maharashtra

    The IMD has forecast isolated instances of extremely heavy rainfall in the Gujarat region from August 26 to 28, and in Saurashtra and Kutch from August 26 to 29. Konkan & Goa and the ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra are also likely to experience very heavy rainfall on August 26. In response to this forecast, a red alert has been issued for these regions.

    Widespread Rainfall Predicted Across India

    According to the IMD, heavy rainfall is expected to continue in several parts of India until August 27. East and Northeast India are predicted to receive widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Isolated heavy rain is forecast for the Andaman & Nicobar Islands on August 27, West Bengal and Sikkim on August 26, Bihar on August 26 and 27, Jharkhand from August 26 to 27, Odisha on August 26, and Arunachal Pradesh on August 28, 29, and 30. Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Tripura are likely to experience rain throughout the week.

    Gujarat Braces for Very Heavy Rainfall

    The IMD predicts “heavy to very heavy” rain at multiple locations in Gujarat, with isolated instances of “extremely heavy” rain. South Gujarat districts such as Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, as well as Amreli and Bhavnagar in the Saurashtra region, are likely to receive heavy rainfall until Tuesday morning. On Tuesday, districts including Anand, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch are expected to experience “heavy to very heavy” rainfall with isolated “extremely heavy” rain.

    Heavy Rainfall to Impact Parts of Rajasthan

    The weather department has also forecast very heavy rainfall, exceeding 200 mm, in some areas of the Kota, Udaipur, and Jodhpur divisions through Monday. Rainfall activity in Rajasthan is expected to decrease after August 27.

    Odisha to Experience Heavy Rainfall for Next Three Days

    The IMD has issued a forecast for heavy rainfall in Odisha over the next three days due to a trough stretching from South Uttar Pradesh to the Bay of Bengal. An orange warning has been issued for several northeastern districts of Odisha, including Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Dhenkanal, Angul, Jajapur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.

    According to Bhubaneswar IMD Director Manorama Mohanty, this weather pattern, extending 1.5 km above sea level, is expected to bring significant rainfall to the state. Some areas might experience very heavy downpours, with Bamra in Sambalpur already recording the highest rainfall at 167.8 mm in the past day.

    Delhi Weather Update

    The IMD has predicted a generally cloudy sky with light rain in Delhi on Monday. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 34°C, while the minimum is forecasted to be 25°C.

    5-Day Nationwide Weather Forecast:
    A depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh and east Rajasthan is likely to intensify into a deep depression over east Rajasthan within the next 12 hours. It is expected to move west-southwestward across south Rajasthan and Gujarat, potentially reaching the northeast Arabian Sea off Saurashtra and Kutch by August 29th morning. Additionally, a low-pressure system over south Bangladesh is forecasted to intensify and move west-northwestward across Gangetic West Bengal, north Odisha, and Jharkhand in the next two days.

    Throughout the week, widespread light to moderate rainfall is anticipated across West, Central, East, and Northeast India, with isolated heavy to extremely heavy showers expected in regions like Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and the Konkan coast. Southern states, including Kerala and Karnataka, are also likely to experience significant rainfall, especially in coastal areas.
