Pune, 8th September: Defending champions Petroleum Sports Promotion Board (PSPB) became first team to qualify for the quarterfinals, while runners up Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) joined booking their berth in the 4th Hockey India Senior Men Inter-Department National Championship ‘24 at the Major Dhyanchand Stadium, Nehrunagar-Pimpri, organised by Hockey Maharashtra and supported by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), on Sunday.
The day began with PSPB fighting off the fight put up by Central Board Of Direct Taxes (CBDT) before winning 5-4. The victory was PSPB’s third-in-a-row which maintained their top spot in Pool-A with 9 points.
Yousuf Affan (2nd – p. c) opened the account for PSPB before Rosan Minz (9th, 41st) added a brace and SumitKumar (38th) and Dipsan Tirkey (59th – p. c) added one each and completed their team’s tally. For Central Board Of Direct Taxes, Vikash Choudhary (54th; 60th – p. c) accounted a brace and Pranam Gowda Y.M (29th – p. c), Mareeswaran Sakthivel (50th) reduced the margin further.
In Pool-B, Railway Sports Promotion Board (RSPB) downed Steel Plant Sports Board for their third win. RSPB were aided by a double by Pardeep Singh (33rd, 47th) and (Gursahibjit Singh (23rd). RSPB took their tally to 9 points from 3 matches.
In other matches, Pool-A had Indo Tibetian Border Police (I.T.B.P) Central Hockey Team play out a 3-3 draw with Central Secretariat. Taranjot Singh (16th – p.c), Vijay Kumar Gond (18th – p.c), Anil (57th – p.c) netted for ITBP, while Central Secretariat had Kawaljit Singh (39th) and a brace by M Hassan Basha (52nd,53rd) level terms. I.T.B.T thus opened their tally with one point (2 matches) and Central Secretariat added to their tally and tallied 4 points (3 matches) and occupy second position in Pool-A.
Pool-B had All India Police Sports Control Board record the best score of the tournament so far. The police team beat Sports Authority of Gujarat – Hockey Academy 17-2. The match also had Akash Singh record the best individual score of the tournament with Akashdeep Singh netting eight goals (12th, 21st – p.c, 26th – p.c, 35th, 41st, 42nd – p.c, 55th, 58th – p.c ), Tokyo Olympian Dilpreet Singh netted three (17th – p.s, 24th, 46th) while adding to the tally was Haris Mohammad (21st – p.c), Dharamvir Singh (33rd), Pawan Deep Singh (38th), Simranjit Singh (48th), Shubham (54th) and Kamaljit Singh (56th – pc). Sports Authority Of Gujarat – Hockey Academy reduced the margin from becoming a rout when Ajaykumar Baria (26th; 37th – p.s) completed a brace.
The police team took their tally to 6 points (3 matches) and into second position in Pool-B. Sports Authority of Gujarat lost their third match and were the first to exit.
