MSEDCL Announces Amnesty Scheme For 38 Lakh Permanently Disconnected Consumers

Mumbai, 30th August 2024: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has announced an Amnesty Scheme (Abhay Yojana )2024 for 38 lakh domestic, commercial and industrial power consumers whose connections have been permanently disconnected (PD) due to non-payment of Energy pending bills. Under this scheme power utility will waive interest on dues and delayed payment charges worth Rs. 1788 crore.

The amnesty scheme is being introduced to give relief to consumers as instructed by Hon. Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) as well as energy minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis. MSEDCL Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Lokesh Chandra appealed consumers to avail benefit of the scheme starting from 1st September.

As per the decision of the Supreme Court, it is mandatory for an owner or purchaser or occupant of the property to pay power bill dues. But instead of directly taking action, MSEDCL has provided relief in the form of amnesty scheme and has asked PD consumers to become stress free by using this golden opportunity.

The scheme is for domestic, commercial and industrial power consumers of all MSEDCL’s consumers including franchisee area in Bhiwandi, Malegaon, Mumbra, Sheel and Kalwa whose connections are permanently disconnected till March 31st, 2024 for non payment of pending bills. Agriculture and Public water supply consumers are excluded in the scheme. It will be in effect from 1st September to 30th November 2024.

MSEDCL has pending bill dues of Rs. 5048 Crore from these 38 lakh consumers and Rs. 1719 crore interest as well as Rs. 69.9 crore delayed payment charges. Under the amnesty scheme MSEDCL will waive interest and delayed payment charges.

– Facility of making 30 % of the payable amount and balance in six monthly instalments.
