Mumbai Police Officers Suspended After Viral CCTV Footage Allegedly Shows Them Planting Drugs on Man

The controversial incident unfolded during a raid conducted by plain-clothed officers on Friday evening. The CCTV footage, which quickly spread across social media, shows one of the officers discreetly slipping an object into the hip pocket of the suspect, later identified as Daniel, who was detained during the operation.

After the video surfaced, Daniel spoke to a local news outlet, claiming that the officers threatened to implicate him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. However, they reportedly released him upon realizing that their actions were captured on a security camera.

Adding to the controversy, an associate of Daniel alleged that the raid and the subsequent planting of drugs were orchestrated at the behest of a local builder over a land dispute involving the plot where the raid took place.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone XI) Rajtilak Roshan confirmed the suspension of the four officers pending a full inquiry. The DCP also stated that disciplinary action was initiated due to the officers’ failure to follow proper procedure and their suspicious actions as shown in the video. “They reached the spot based on information regarding drugs, but everything they did is visible on CCTV,” Roshan told news agency.

The incident has sparked widespread criticism, raising questions about police conduct and accountability. Further investigations are ongoing as the department seeks to determine the full extent of the officers’ misconduct.
