Pimpri Chinchwad, 14th September 2024: Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate’s (PCPC) Crime Branch Unit 2 has arrested a wanted criminal charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act of 1999 (MCOCA). At the time of arrest, he was found in possession of a pistol. The arrested individual has a record of involvement in organized crime, along with accomplices, and has been involved in robberies with intent to cause grievous harm.
Crime Branch Unit 2 arrested Dilip, also known as Paji or Sardar Indrajit Chauhan (age 29, resident of Nehru Nagar, Pimpri). In addition to other criminal activities, he was charged under MCOCA in a case registered at MIDC Bhosari Police Station. He also faces charges under BNS Sections 311 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace), 333 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault, or wrongful restraint), 351 (2) (criminal intimidation), 115 (2) (voluntarily causing hurt), and 3 (5) (common intention).
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sandeep Doiphode, while patrolling yesterday, Police Constables Ajit Sanap and Namdev Kapase received information from a confidential source about a man, aged around 25 to 30 years, who was roaming near HA Ground in Nehru Nagar with a pistol at his waist. The team immediately proceeded to the location. When the accused sensed the presence of the police, he attempted to flee but was eventually apprehended after a chase.
Upon interrogation, the suspect was identified as Chauhan. It was revealed that ever since a case was registered against him at MIDC Bhosari Police Station, Chauhan had been evading arrest by frequently changing his location. A country-made pistol and one live cartridge, both valued at Rs 50,500, were confiscated from him.
The operation, conducted under the guidance of senior officials, was led by Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Kadam, along with Police Sub Inspector Ganesh Mane and Police Constables Dilip Chaudhary, Usha Dale, Ajit Sanap, Namdev Kapase, and Deva Raut.
