Pimpri Chinchwad: Violence Erupts at Sangvi Ganesh Visarjan, Three Stabbed in Brutal Koyta Attack

Sangvi, 14th September 2024: In Pimpri Chinchwad, during yesterday’s Ganesh Visarjan (immersion), three people were attacked with a koyta. This incident has caused panic among the public, leading them to feel unsafe even during this holy occasion. The attempted murder was due to past animosity and took place in the evening in Sangvi, where most Ganesh Mandals hold their Visarjan Grand Procession on the 7th day.

Galib Karim Shaikh (age 21, a resident of Navi Sangvi) complained to the Sangvi Police Station. The Sangvi Police have arrested Riddhesh, aka Lala Hemant Patil, and Shubham Baburao Nawale, along with their accomplices. A case has been registered under BNS Section 109 (attempted murder), 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), as well as relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959, Maharashtra Police Act of 1951, and the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act of 2013.

According to police reports, in Sangvi, most people and Mandals perform Ganesh Visarjan on the seventh day. During this time, the incident occurred. The complainant, along with his cousins Aqib Shaikh, Siddhant Dhende, and Gaurav Bharat Yalmar, were standing by the road to witness the Ganpati Visarjan procession when accused Riddhesh and Shubham, along with others, attempted to attack the complainant, Ghalib, with sharp weapons. Aqib, Siddhant, and Gaurav got involved in the altercation and were stabbed with a sharp koyta.

Three to four people were seriously injured and are currently undergoing treatment in a private hospital. Aqib sustained injuries to his back and forehead, Siddhant was stabbed on the cheek, and Gaurav on the back. The incident caused a stir in the Sangvi area. The police detained the accused within a few hours. Assistant Police Inspector Kalkutge is conducting further investigations into the matter.
