“The Warje Karve Nagar regional ward office imposed a fine of ₹25,000 for each truck, summing up to ₹7.5 lakh, and has given him a day to comply, or face further legal action,” the additional municipal commissioner stated.
According to a PMC official who requested anonymity, the debris was dumped at survey number A/1, located in front of the Amrut Kalash Society on D P Road, Karve Nagar. Despite Pawar owning the land, the debris poses a threat to the river’s flow and public health.
PMC Ward Officer Vijay Naykal emphasized, “The debris obstructs the river’s flow and poses health hazards for citizens. Given these risks, the PMC deemed it necessary to serve the notice. We are also considering filing a police case under the Solid Waste Management Act.”
This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding pollution in the Mula-Mutha River. Earlier this year, localities such as Ekta Nagari on Sinhagad Road experienced severe flooding following water release from the Khadakwasla Dam. Investigations revealed that debris dumping in the riverbed contributed significantly to the flooding, prompting further scrutiny of waste disposal practices in the area.
