Pune, 24th August 2024: In a crucial update for Pune residents, authorities have announced that water release from Khadakwasla Dam into the Mutha River basin will begin today at 3:00 PM. A flow rate of 12,958 cusecs is expected. The announcement comes with a stern warning from the Deputy Engineer of the Mutha Canal Sub-Division, urging citizens to avoid entering the riverbed during this period.

The increase in water discharge is a routine measure taken to manage the reservoir levels, especially during the monsoon season. However, with the significant volume of water set to be released, the riverbed could become hazardous. Authorities emphasize that the swift currents and rising water levels could pose serious risks to anyone in or near the river.

“Citizens are strongly advised to stay away from the riverbed during the release period and to take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety,” stated the Deputy Engineer.

The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been notified and is coordinating with local authorities to ensure public safety during this time.
