According to Mohol’s post on X, there are currently 34 check-in counters capable of accommodating 3,000 passengers during peak hours at NITB. With the addition of the new counters, the total will rise to 50. The expansion will cover an area of 4,000 sqm and will require an investment of Rs 25 crore, with completion expected by March 2025.

The minister mentioned that the AAI’s initiative aims to decrease check-in and security screening times for travelers. The expansion will also introduce improved security features, including more Door Frame Metal Detectors (DFMDs), X-ray machines, and designated space for retail outlets.

The new check-in counters will be situated in the renovated arrival hall of the old terminal building, which is set to be transformed into an expanded departure hall that will connect with the new terminal building. This upgrade follows the recent commissioning of the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) on July 14 of this year.
