Pune: Frequent Power Outages Plague Yogi Park Area in Baner; Residents Voice Concerns

Baner, 28th August 2024: The Yogi Park area of Baner has been experiencing frequent power outages for several days, according to residents. The area, home to 10 to 15 housing societies, has seen inconsistent electricity supply, forcing residents to rely on generators. Each society uses approximately 50 to 60 litres of diesel daily to keep the generators running. Recently, the residents raised their concerns with Punekar News.

They blame the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), along with local authorities such as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pune Police and the area’s MLA and MP, for ignoring their issues. In addition to power outages, residents report increasing problems with traffic, garbage collection, and water supply. The power supply issue, in particular, has worsened during the monsoon season.

Residents complain that the frequent power disruptions have severely impacted their daily lives. The unpredictability of the electricity supply makes it difficult for children to study at night, affects basic daily chores, and causes problems with lifts and other electrical appliances.

A resident of Skyi Aquila Society in Baner said, “I have been experiencing these issues since 2010. Despite multiple complaints and regular follow-ups, our situation remains unchanged. We are spending a lot of money to fuel the generator. Along with the electricity problems, issues like traffic and water supply are also worsening.”

An MSEDCL official told Punekar News, “Due to the rains, many areas have been affected, and Baner is one of them. We are addressing the complaints and will resolve the issues as soon as possible.”
