Pune: Fugitive Arrested in Thane District After Seven Years on the Run


Pune, 11th September 2024: The individual who had been evading arrest and absconding for seven years has been arrested by Pune Police in Thane District. He frequently changed his location, making it difficult to arrest him. In 2017, he committed a murder over a minor dispute. The arrest was made by the Anti-Dacoity Cell and Vehicle Theft Unit I.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sunil Laxman Pawar, 34, a resident of Gokhale Nagar. In 2017, he committed the murder, and a case was registered at Chaturshringi Police Station. After the crime, Pawar absconded. Despite police efforts to locate him, he could not be found, and the court eventually declared him a fugitive.

Police Constables Balu Gaikwad and Mahesh Patil, received information from a confidential source that the accused, wanted for the murder in the Gokhale Nagar area, was living in the Kashigaon area of Thane District under a different name. The Detection Branch (DB) of the Anti-Dacoity Cell and Vehicle Theft Unit I went to Thane to apprehend him. Upon seeing the police, Pawar tried to flee, but the officers chased him down. During interrogation, he confessed and revealed that he had lived in Ranjangaon and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar under different identities for several years. He has been handed over to Chaturshringi Police Station.
