Pune: Global Tech Giant Microsoft Acquires 16.4 Acres in Hinjawadi for Rs 519.72 Crore

Hinjawadi, 11th September 2024: Global tech leader Microsoft has made a significant investment of Rs 519.72 crore in Hinjawadi, Pune, one of India’s leading IT centres, as reported by Square Yards. This move is part of Microsoft’s larger plan to expand its data centre operations and strengthen its presence in India.

In recent years, Microsoft has ramped up its investments in India’s commercial real estate, focusing on data centres, development facilities, and flexible workspaces. According to the registration documents accessed by Square Yards, Microsoft Corporation (India) Private Limited acquired 66,414.5 square meters (16.4 acres) of prime land in Pune’s Hinjawadi. The transaction, completed in August 2024, saw the purchase of land from Indo Global Infotech City LLP, with the company paying Rs 31.18 crore in stamp duty and Rs 30,000 as the registration fee.

In addition to this, Microsoft acquired 25 acres in Pimpri-Chinchwad for Rs 328 crore in 2022, followed by the purchase of 48 acres in Hyderabad earlier this year for Rs 267 crore. These acquisitions align with the company’s strategy to expand its footprint in India, particularly in the data centre space. Microsoft’s network already covers key markets such as Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai.

Currently, Microsoft employs more than 23,000 people across India, with offices in cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Pune. The workforce supports various functions, including sales, marketing, research, development, and customer service. In early 2024, Microsoft launched a significant initiative, ADVANTA(I)GE INDIA, aimed at training 2 million people in AI and digital skills by 2025. This effort is part of its “Skills for Jobs” program, designed to prepare a skilled workforce for the future.
