Pune: Gulmohar City Residents From Kharadi Urge PMC To Fix Drainage Issues As Water Causes Damage To Property

Residents of Gulmohar City Society in Kharadi have formally reached out to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address a critical drainage problem that has led to severe flooding within their community. The overflowing drainage water from surrounding areas has been inundating the society, causing significant damage to property and posing serious health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups like the elderly and children.

The residents have reported that water accumulation in streets and parking areas has made living conditions unbearable. In their letter to the PMC, they have urgently requested an inspection of the drainage system to identify the root cause of the overflow, the clearing of any blockages, and the implementation of a permanent solution to prevent future flooding.

Earlier the residents met the additional Commissioner who visited the site and instructed them to complete the work, informed Manoj Dudhankar, Secretary, Kharadi Welfare Housing Association to Pune Pulse. He said the damage is too high to the property as well as cars and two wheelers. PMC must expedite the work now.

Gulmohar City Society Secretary Harshal Ghadge told Pune Pulse that this has been a recurring issue due to faulty drainage issues. The natural flow of the nala seems to be disturbed in a great way.  The water flows back as the system needs to be upgraded. Each time it rains we are at a loss of approximately Rs 2 lakhs. Will PMC bear it ? Work Is going on at a snail’s pace which needs to be expedited.

Pune Pulse spoke to Dinkar Gojare, Superintending Engineer – Sewerage, Maintenance And Repair Department (Circle No. 1,2 & 3). He said, “We visited the spot today and found that the channelisation of nala had caused these issues. At present we are carrying out the re-channeling of the nala according to its original form. Also, the residents have complained that further the nala has been blocked for which a survey would be carried to find out the root cause. All possible help is extended to the society in terms of machinery to clear the debris as the wall has collapsed and any other work from PMC at the moment.”

The residents have expressed the dire need for immediate intervention to ensure that the drainage water is effectively diverted away from their society, restoring safety and comfort to their community. They eagerly await prompt action from the municipal authorities to resolve this ongoing issue.
