Yerawada, 23rd August 2024: An inmate serving a life sentence for murder escaped from Yerawada Central Jail in Pune on Monday evening (19th August). He was later apprehended by a Women Police Constable from Market Yard Police Station. The accused had escaped from Yerwada Open Jail (YOJ) after being transferred earlier this year due to ‘good behaviour.’

The inmate who escaped is Raju Pandharinath Dusane (age 43, resident of Vaijapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). He was serving a life sentence for murdering his wife in 2021, after suspecting her character and attacking her with a koyta. Due to ‘good behaviour,’ he was transferred to the Open Jail in January of this year.

On Monday evening, while the prison guards were taking attendance, it was discovered that he was missing. A case was registered at Yerawada Police Station regarding the escape.

A team from Market Yard Police Station was patrolling the area, and all Police Stations had received a photo of the escaped Dusane. Police Constable Yashoda Ved Pathak, who was patrolling near Maharashtra Warehousing Corporation in Market Yard, noticed Dusane behaving suspiciously and identified him. She approached him for questioning, during which he gave vague answers. Dusane was then taken to Market Yard Police Station for further investigation.

Dusane confessed to escaping from Yerawada Central Jail and was handed over to Yerawada Police Station. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) R. Raja, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wanowrie Division) Dhanyakumar Godse, Senior Police Inspector Maya Deware, and the heroic Women Police Constable Yashoda Ved Pathak were involved in the case.
