Pune, 19 September 2024: Good news has emerged for Punekars and residents of Western Maharashtra as flights from Pune International Airport to Bangkok and Dubai have been approved. This air service will begin on 27th October. Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol made this announcement on X (formerly Twitter).
In this year’s winter schedule, the possibility of starting flight services from Pune to Bangkok was high, with Air India Express leading the effort. They requested slot availability from Pune International Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport (Bangkok Airport), and both administrations confirmed availability. Thus, it is confirmed that a flight will operate from Pune to Bangkok in this winter schedule.
Previously, there was a flight service between Pune and Bangkok, but it was suspended during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the route to the Thai capital, which has yet to resume. With the new terminal at Pune Airport now operational, the number of flights from Pune is expected to increase in the winter schedule. There will be daily flights between Pune and Dubai, and three-weekly flights between Pune and Bangkok.
Currently, around 190 flights operate from Pune across both terminals, with 95 flights arriving and 95 departing daily. On average, around 35,000 passengers travel through the airport each day. Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol commented, “Good news for Punekars; Two new international flights! Delighted to announce that from 27th October 2024 onwards, Pune-Dubai-Pune (daily) and Pune-Bangkok-Pune flights (thrice a week) will be operational from Pune International Airport. Punekars and people of Western Maharashtra will benefit from this enhanced connectivity for their international journeys.”
