Pune: Lonavala Police Hold Joint Meeting to Address Rising Sexual Assaults on Minors


Lonavala, 26th August 2024: There has been a rise in reports of sexual assaults on minors in recent days. Taking this issue seriously, on August 22nd, a joint meeting was held under the jurisdiction of Lonavala City, Lonavala Rural, Kamshet, and Vadgaon Maval Police Stations, all part of the Lonavala Division of the Pune Rural Police Force.

The meeting included principals, administrative staff, and female teachers from schools and colleges, as well as Police Administration officials. This initiative was led by the Assistant Superintendent of Police for the Lonavala Division, Satyasai Karthik. The meeting focused on providing crucial safety guidelines for both male and female students.

The key instructions given were as follows:
1) Install CCTV cameras throughout the school and monitor them regularly.
2) Place a complaint box in a secure location within the school and check it regularly.
3) Install CCTV cameras in vulnerable areas of the school.
4) Establish a student safety committee and counselling rooms.
5) Install CCTV cameras at entrances and exits, set up a PA system, and use it for safety announcements.
6) Regularly review student safety in schools and colleges through initiatives like Police Dada, Police Didi, Nirbhaya Squad, and Police Patrolling.
7) Form a Women Vigilance Committee to address the issues faced by female students.
8) Ensure that every staff member, including wardens, staff, cleaners, bus drivers, and security guards, undergoes character verification.
9) Inspect pan stalls and shops near schools and colleges.
10) Increase police patrolling in school areas.
11) Monitor outsiders and suspicious individuals at the entrances and exits of schools and colleges.
12) Establish control rooms in schools and colleges to monitor the premises via CCTV.
13) Sensitize and counsel students through the Sankalp Nashamukti Abhiyan about the rising issue of drug consumption in schools and colleges.

By addressing these topics, police officers and personnel have been assigned to each school and college. These measures are being implemented to prevent such unfortunate incidents from occurring.
