Pune: Market Yard Sees Surge in Vegetable Supply, Leading to Lower Prices for Okra, Guar, and More


Market Yard, 19th August 2024: The arrival of vegetables from the Pune division increased due to the rains. Prices for okra, guar, cucumber, brinjal, moringa, flat beans, and common beans decreased. The overall arrival of fruits and vegetables also increased due to the rains, which had decreased in the previous week. Traders reported that the prices of other fruits and vegetables remain stable.

Yesterday, 100 truckloads of fruits and vegetables from both within and outside the state arrived at the wholesale market in Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard in Pune.

From Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat, 8-10 tempos of green chillies arrived; 8-10 tempos each of cabbage from Gujarat and Karnataka; 2-3 tempos each of lima beans and common beans from Karnataka; 4-5 tempos of moringa from Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh; 8-10 tempos of carrots from Madhya Pradesh; 1 tempo of peanuts from Gujarat; and 10 tempos of garlic from Madhya Pradesh, according to senior trader Vilas Bhujbal.

From the Pune Division, 700-800 sacks of Satari ginger; 7-10 tempos of okra; 5-6 tempos of guar; 9-10 thousand boxes of tomatoes; 4-5 tempos of green chillies; and 10-12 tempos of capsicum have arrived. From the Purandar, Parner, Wai, and Satara areas, 8-10 tempos of peas; 10-12 tempos of cucumber; 5-6 tempos of cabbage; 10-12 tempos of cauliflower; 60 sacks of peanuts; 10-12 tempos of red pumpkin; and 70-80 truckloads of onions have been received. Additionally, 45-50 tempos of potatoes from Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have arrived.

Slight Increase in Leafy Vegetable Prices

Due to increased demand, rates for coriander, fenugreek, dill leaves, spring onions, white goosefoot, mint, and green sorrel have slightly risen. Rates for safflower, sorrel, radish, amaranth leaves, and spinach remain stable.

The rates for 100 bunches of leafy vegetables in the wholesale market are as follows: Coriander ranges from Rs 1200 to 2000, fenugreek from Rs 800 to 1200, dill leaves from Rs 800 to 1200, and spring onions from Rs 800 to 1500. White goosefoot is priced between Rs 400 and 800, safflower leaves between Rs 300 and 700, mint between Rs 500 and 1000, and green sorrel between Rs 400 and 700. Radish ranges from Rs 800 to 1500, amaranth leaves from Rs 400 to 700, and spinach from Rs 800 to 1500.

Rise in Fruit Prices

Papaya and lemon prices have increased in the fruit market. Prices for chicoo and guava have fallen, while the rates for pineapple, pomegranate, sweet lemon, orange, watermelon, muskmelon, and custard apple have remained stable. Yesterday, 70-80 tons of sweet lemon, 2-4 tons of oranges, 50-55 tons of pomegranate, 15-20 tempos of papaya, 700-1000 sacks of lemons, 3-4 tempos of watermelon, 2 tempos of muskmelon, 1000 boxes of chicoo, 800-1000 plastic crates of guava, and 20-25 tons of custard apple arrived at Pune Market Yard.
