Pune Metro Enhances Peak Hour Service with 8 Additional Trips

Pune, 22nd August 2024: Yerawada Metro Station of Pune Metro became operational yesterday. In anticipation of increased passenger traffic, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has decided to increase the frequency of metro services to accommodate the expected rise in commuters. As a result, a metro will now be available at all stations every 7 minutes during peak hours.

After a long wait, Yerawada Metro Station finally commenced operations, leading to an increase in metro frequency on both the Aqua Line, which connects Vanaz and Ramwadi, and the Purple Line, which connects Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Building and Pune District Court. During peak hours, from 8 AM to 11 AM, when most people leave for work, and from 4 PM to 8 PM, when they return home, metros will now run every 7 minutes, up from the previous 7.5 minutes.

This change will result in 4 additional trips on each line. Previously, 113 trips were made from the PCMC Building to Pune Court Station, but now 117 will be made. Similarly, trips from Vanaz to Ramwadi will increase from 114 to 118. During off-peak hours—6 AM to 8 AM, 11 AM to 4 PM, and 8 PM to 10 PM—the metro frequency will be every 10 minutes.

Shravan Hardikar, Managing Director of Maha Metro, said, “With the increase in metro frequency and trips, passengers will benefit. The waiting time at metro stations will be reduced, and the maximum number of citizens will be able to travel by metro with the addition of 8 trips on both lines during peak hours.”
