Pune, 20th August 2024: Two disturbing incidents of sexual abuse in schools have come to light in recent days, leaving parents and communities reeling in shock. In Badlapur, a cleaning worker at a reputable school was accused of sexually assaulting two minor girls, while in Pune, a 19-year-old student was arrested for attempting to rape a class VII student in a school in the Bhawani Peth area.
The Pune incident occurred on Independence Day, when the victim had gone to school to retrieve her bag. The accused, who was also a student at the school, allegedly dragged her to the toilet and attempted to molest her. The victim managed to escape and informed her parents, who promptly reported the incident to the police.
Authorities have taken swift action in both cases. In Pune, the accused has been arrested, while in Badlapur, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to investigate the incident.
Rupali Chakankar, chairperson for the Maharashtra Commission for Women, has assured that strict action will be taken against the accused in both cases. “We understand the gravity of these incidents and will ensure that justice is served,” she said.
