Pune: Multiple Molestation Incidents Reported on Public Transport, Police on the Hunt for Suspects

Pune, 24th August 2024: A series of disturbing molestation incidents have been reported across Pune, with college girls and young women being targeted by men on public transport. The incidents occurred in different areas, prompting police action and investigations.

In the first incident, two college girls traveling on a PMPML bus in Yerwada were molested by two unidentified men. The girls were returning home from college when the men boarded the bus after following them. During the journey, the men allegedly molested the girls and attempted to engage in inappropriate acts. When the female conductor and an elderly passenger intervened, the men pushed them aside and escaped after getting off at the Nagpur Chawl bus stop.

The mother of one of the victims filed a complaint at the Yerawada Police Station. Based on her complaint, the police have registered a case of molestation against the two suspects. Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Kumar Shelke and Assistant Police Inspector Solunke visited the spot, and Assistant Police Inspector Deokar is leading the ongoing investigation.

In a separate incident on the Mumbai-Bangalore bypass, a 16-year-old girl was molested by a rickshaw driver. The girl’s mother filed a complaint at the Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station, leading to the arrest of the rickshaw driver, identified as 23-year-old Govind Hanumant Nenavat from Manaji Nagar, Narhe. The driver allegedly attempted to commit an indecent act after realizing the girl was alone in the rickshaw. He also threatened the girl, citing a recent incident in Kolkata. The police have registered a case against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Another incident was reported in the Kharadi area, where a young woman was molested at a PMP bus stop. According to the complaint, two men followed and harassed the woman as she was heading home by bus. Vishrantwadi Police have arrested the suspects, identified as 28-year-old Sandeep Parameshwara Varkhad from Hadapsar and 27-year-old Vishnu Vitthal Shinde from Lohgaon.
