Pune: PCMC’s Divyang Bhavan Fully Operational, Offering Comprehensive Services for Differently-Abled Citizens

Pimpri, 27th September 2024: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has officially commenced full operations of the Divyang Bhavan at Morwadi, Pimpri, marking a pivotal step in its mission to support differently-abled individuals. Initially set up under Section 8 of the Companies Act, the Divyang Bhavan Foundation is now fully functional, providing a broad range of services across all 21 categories of disabilities.

Since becoming operational, the centre has offered key services including therapy, distribution of assistive devices, skill development, and rehabilitation. Over 150 individuals have already benefited from the therapy facilities, while 120 have received crucial assistive devices, such as prosthetics. Additionally, the centre has conducted awareness programs, reaching more than 300 participants to date.

PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh expressed his pride in the milestone, saying, “The full-scale launch of Divyang Bhavan represents our continued dedication to empowering differently-abled citizens. With a wide array of specialized services now available, we aim to significantly enhance the quality of life for these individuals within PCMC limits.”

The Divyang Bhavan Foundation has also expanded its staff, having recruited 40 employees across 31 categories in the initial phase, followed by an additional 3 in a subsequent round. Paresh Gandhi, CEO of the foundation, stated that the team is now fully equipped to provide tailored care and support for the beneficiaries.

In an effort to identify and reach more eligible citizens, Additional Commissioner Pradip Jambhale Patil announced plans for a door-to-door survey. “This initiative will help us ensure that no one is left out and that all differently-abled individuals receive the assistance they need,” he said.

Tanaji Narale, Assistant Commissioner of the Social Development Department, emphasized that the centre is well-prepared to accommodate a large number of beneficiaries and offer a wide range of therapeutic services. He also mentioned the upcoming operationalization of a Divyang Cell at the facility, which will help streamline services for the community.

Omprakash Deshmukh, Managing Director of the foundation, encouraged all individuals holding UDID (Unique Disability ID) cards to visit Divyang Bhavan. “We are here to provide comprehensive support, and we urge eligible citizens to take full advantage of the services we offer,” he said.

Through this initiative, PCMC continues its effort to create an inclusive environment, offering vital resources for the differently-abled population in the region.
