Pune, 3rd September 2024: An important decision has been made regarding tree conservation within the limits of the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The PMRDA has established a Tree Authority Committee and decided that prior permission from the Tree Authority is mandatory when obtaining a completion certificate for construction projects. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner Dr Yogesh Mhase and is expected to enhance tree conservation efforts.
The Tree Authority Committee has been formed under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and. Preservation of Trees Act of 1975. As a result, before obtaining a no-objection certificate and final occupancy letter, developers must first secure a completion certificate from the Tree Authority in compliance with tree conservation guidelines. Given that many development projects fall within rural areas under the PMRDA’s jurisdiction, it has also been decided to reduce the previously set deposit amount for tree conservation.
Under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and. Preservation of Trees Act of 1975, if terms and conditions related to tree planting are not met, developers must pay a deposit per tree. After the required trees are planted according to the criteria, a final no-objection certificate will be issued by the Tree Authority. PMRDA Metropolitan Commissioner and Chairman of the Tree Authority Committee, Dr Yogesh Mhase, has decided that the deposit paid at the time of final approval of the plot drawing will be refunded after the trees are inspected and compliance is confirmed.
