The weather department has predicted heavy to moderate rainfall across various parts of the state for the next three days. A yellow alert has been issued for parts of Vidarbha including Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha, Nagpur, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, and Gondia districts on Sunday, August 18. Similarly, a yellow alert has been issued for Marathwada districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, and Hingoli, as well as in Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Ahmednagar, and Nashik districts of central Maharashtra.
In Pune, after a day of sweltering heat on Saturday, the sky suddenly clouded over by evening, followed by heavy showers that disrupted daily life. The meteorological department has issued a yellow alert for the next two to three days, with an orange alert for August 21.
The rain, which began in the evening, continued late into the night, leading to waterlogging in many areas. The sudden downpour left many two-wheeler riders stranded on the roads, with several streets turning into streams, resulting in severe traffic jams across the city.
