Jaymala Dhankikar, director of the NIBM Annexe Residents Forum (NARF), has been requesting the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to resolve the issue, but to no avail. “I have requested the PMC to resolve this issue several times, but I have received no response from them. Last month, when I contacted them regarding the issue, they sent workers who fixed one bulb out of five poles, but that’s not enough,” she said.
Streetlights are missing on Nine Hills To Elina Living, Raheja Vista Circle To Raheja Premiere, incomplete fittings from Marvel Sangria To Corinthians Club road. Many times, the poles which have fittings are non-functional leaving the area in total darkness.
Infact, even Pune Pulse has raised this issue with the Pune Municipal Corporation several times drawing their attention to the problem that the civic body has installed light poles without light fittings. The lack of streetlights has raised safety concerns, especially for women commuting from the locality. “Females don’t feel safe commuting from this locality due to the darkness,” Dhankikar added.
Manisha Shekatkar, Electrical Department officer of PMC, has assured that she will send engineers to assess the situation and improve the lighting in the region. “I will send respective engineers to the location and see how we can improve the lighting issue in the respective region. As per the funds allocated in the budget 2024, we have just received financial approval 15 days back. Resolving this issue will take time, but I will try my best to resolve it as soon as possible,” she said.
Residents hope that the PMC will take swift action to address the issue and ensure their safety.
