Pune: Strict Enforcement Of Liquor Ban During Ganeshotsav


Pune, 9th September 2024: District Collector Suhas Diwase recently ordered to stop the sale of liquor in the central part of the city during Ganeshotsav within the limits of Khadak, Vishrambaug, and Faraaskhana police stations. Accordingly, strict implementation of the liquor ban has started and Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Praveen Kumar Patil warned of action if the order is violated.

During the festival, the office bearers of the boards had suggested in a meeting that the liquor shops within the limits of Khadak, Faraaskhana, and Vishrambaug police stations should be closed. After that, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar sent the proposal to District Collector Suhas Diwase regarding the closure of liquor shops in the central part.

Liquor shops and pubs within the limits of Khadak, Vishrambaug, and Faraaskhana police stations in the city will remain closed during the entire Ganeshotsav period. It has been ordered that liquor shops will be opened on September 18 after the completion of the immersion procession.

Liquor sales will be closed in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and other rural areas on Anant Chaturdashi. Liquor shops and pubs on the Visarjan procession route in Pune City will be closed till the end of the immersion procession. On the fifth and seventh days of Ganeshotsav (September 11 and 13), according to the order given by the District Collector, all kinds of liquor shops and pubs on the route of the immersion procession will be closed at the places of immersion processions.

Praveen Kumar Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police informed that everyone should observe the sanctity of the festival. Strict action will be taken by the police if anyone is found selling liquor in violation of the order. Bharari squads of the Excise Department should take action if anyone is seen to not comply with the order of ban on the sale of liquor.
