Pune: Swachh Pan Card Club Road Abhiyan: Residents Plant Trees to Raise Awareness of Cleanliness

Baner, 14th September 2024: This morning at 6:30 AM, residents of Supreme Estia Housing Society in Baner participated in a tree plantation drive along Pan Card Club Road as part of the “Swachh Pan Card Club Road Abhiyan.”

The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean, garbage-free environment and to remind the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) of its responsibility to keep the area sanitary. The drive was organized in response to ongoing concerns about unhygienic conditions in the area.

On 5th September, members of the “Swachh Pan Card Club Road Abhiyan” sent a formal letter to PMC Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale and Assistant Municipal Commissioner Girish Dapkekar, highlighting various issues, including garbage accumulation, poorly maintained footpaths, dirty and slippery roads, non-functional streetlights, irregular garbage collection, and safety concerns due to stray dogs and public alcohol consumption.

The plantation drive served as a symbolic effort to promote a greener, cleaner environment while urging local authorities to take action. It also set the stage for an upcoming road cleaning campaign on 2nd October 2024, where residents will engage shopkeepers and store owners to manage waste responsibly and contribute to a healthier community.

The “Swachh Pan Card Club Road Abhiyan,” led by Arvind Gidroniya, a resident of the area, marked a shift from online appeals to physical action. Several key members of the community participated, including Arvind Gidroniya, Nitesh Singh, Neeraj, Sujit Guha, Jaydeep, Vikrant, Arvind Kulkarni, Kiran Singh, Bharti Bohra, Amresh, Rohit Pandey, and Taru.

Arvind Gidroniya stated, “A cleaner environment starts with small steps. Our plantation drive is not just about planting trees; it’s about planting the seeds of change and creating a healthier, greener, and safer neighbourhood for everyone. Green is the colour of change, and today, we planted more than trees—we planted the idea that together, we can create a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful community. We expect the administration to hear us and address the concerns of residents living along Pan Card Club Road.”
