Pune: Three Students Drown in Indrayani River While Attempting to Perform Puja in Pimpri Chinchwad

Moshi, 20th August 2024: A student studying in an Ashram drowned while attempting to perform a Puja in the Indrayani River in Pimpri Chinchwad. Two other students who tried to save him also drowned.

One of them was rescued quickly from the waters of the Indrayani River but later died during treatment. The remaining two students also lost their lives. This tragic incident occurred yesterday morning in Tapkir Wasti, Moshi, on the banks of the Indrayani River.

The student who died during treatment has been identified as Jay Omprakash Dayma (19, resident of Vani, Nashik). Onkar Shrikrushna Pathak (16, resident of Latur) and Pranav Ramakant Potdar (17, resident of Beed) were the other two who drowned. Onkar’s body was recovered yesterday, while Pranav’s body was found today.

According to reports, 71 students from Vaidik Vidyalaya had come to the Indrayani River bank as part of an activity for the holy month of Shravan, with Monday being considered especially auspicious. During the Puja, one of the students, Jay, fell into the river. In an attempt to save him, Pranav, Omkar, and three other friends rushed to help. However, while trying to rescue Jay, both Omkar and Pranav drowned, while the other two did not.

Jay was rescued yesterday, sometime after the incident, while Omkar was rescued the same day by the Vanyajeev Rakshak Maval Organization. However, Pranav’s body could not be found yesterday; it was recovered today by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team. The search operation involved contributions from the NDRF, Vanyajeev Rakshak Maval Organization, Pimpri Chinchwad Disaster Management Cell, and a team from Alandi Nagar Parishad.
