Baramati, 27th August 2024: An incident occurred at a toll plaza in Pune where an employee was punished by being asked to perform squats. The punishment was allegedly administered by a person inside a car claimed to be from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). This incident took place on Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg in Baramati Taluka, and a case has been registered.

Three days ago, a man claiming to work for the RTO visited the Toll Plaza in Undawadi on Sant Tukaram Maharaj Palkhi Marg. At that time, a toll plaza employee stopped his car and asked for an ID card. The person in the car left without providing identification. Out of anger at being asked for ID, the same person returned the next day and began checking the IDs of everyone at the toll plaza. Although the employee who had asked for the ID was on leave, he was still present at the plaza. The RTO officer questioned him and then forced him to perform squats as a form of humiliating punishment.

The CCTV footage of the squats has not yet surfaced. Toll Plaza manager Santosh Khapare noted that the squats took place in areas without cameras. A complaint has been filed at Supa Police Station in Baramati Taluka against the RTO’s actions. The complaint alleges that an RTO officer named Bajrang Korawale was responsible for the squats. The incident has attracted widespread attention, and it will be important to see what actions the Police Administration will take in response.
