Pune, 30 August 2024: With President Droupadi Murmu’s visit to Pune just a few days away, the Ganeshkhind road still has many huge potholes. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) sent a letter to the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) to repair this road as the metro and flyover work is currently going on in the said area.
However, due to the delayed work of PMRDA, the PMC has started filling the potholes on these roads. During the rainy season, there are plenty of risky potholes on the city’s roads, resulting in increasing traffic congestion.
Work on the Shivajinagar to Hinjewadi metro and flyover on Ganeshkhind road is in progress. A joint meeting of PMC, PMRDA, and Traffic Police was held on the issue of potholes at this place. Measures were planned, but the road’s condition has not yet improved.
According to the information, the PMC sent a letter to PMRDA asking to fill the potholes. But after ignorance from PMRDA, the Road Department of the municipal corporation has taken up the repair work of Ganeshkhind road on its own.
President Murmu is on a visit to Pune on 3rd September along with other senior officials. The PMC has taken the initiative to ensure that there are no potholes during the President’s visit. Although the PMRDA is responsible for filling the potholes, the PMC will do the work and then recover its cost from the PMRDA.
The PMC has a Hot Mix Plant in Yerawada. It is seen that the said plant is often closed during the rainy season, and as the project is not running at full capacity, the speed of work has slowed down due to a lack of gravel-mixed asphalt to fill the potholes. Anirudh Pavaskar, Chief Engineer Road Department, informed that now Hot Mix will be taken from private projects to continue the ongoing work.
According to the information, as many as 432 potholes in 1,981 sq m have been filled since 26th August for which 1,334 tons of Asphalt have been used.
