The CBI, represented by Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, had opposed Kejriwal’s decision to bypass the trial court and directly approach the Delhi High Court for bail, later advancing to the Supreme Court.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 during an investigation into a money laundering case linked to alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy of 2021-22. While in ED custody, the CBI arrested him on June 26 in connection with the same case.

The Delhi excise policy was designed to reform the city’s liquor trade by moving from a volume-based model to a license-fee system. However, the policy was scrapped after Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena called for a CBI probe, citing irregularities. Allegations also surfaced that Kejriwal’s AAP received kickbacks of ₹100 crore, part of which was allegedly used in the Goa election campaign.
