Pune, 16th September 2024: A gold chain-snatching duo has been arrested by Pune Police. Both of the accused, who are from outside the Pune District, were involved in a chain snatching case reported on 11th September. Items worth Rs 2 lakh have been confiscated in this arrest. The two-wheeler used in the robbery was also stolen from Nashik District. The action was taken by the Detection Branch (DB) of Chaturshringi Police Station.
The arrested individuals are Sanjay Ramesh Babare (29, resident of Ahmednagar) and Rahul Ramesh Mawas (24, resident of Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar). A case has been filed under Sections 309 (robbery) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the BNS Act.
According to police reports, a case against the duo was registered at Chaturshringi Police Station on 11th September regarding chain snatching. While searching for the culprits, Assistant Police Inspector Narendra Patil and Police Constable Bhangale reviewed CCTV footage and received information from a confidential source, which confirmed that Babare and Mawas were responsible for the crime. Further investigation revealed that both accused were staying at their relatives’ place in Balewadi. The Detection Branch (DB) of Chaturshringi Police Station conducted a raid and detained them.
The accused confessed to their crimes. Stolen goods worth Rs 1 lakh, including a mangalsutra and ornaments, as well as a Pulsar bike used in the robbery, were confiscated, totalling Rs 2 lakh. The motorcycle used in the theft was also stolen from the jurisdiction of Yeola Taluka Police Station in Nashik. The accused have been remanded in police custody.
This operation was conducted under the guidance of Pune City Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Additional Commissioner of Police (East) Manoj Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) Himmat Jadhav, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Khadki Division) Anuja Deshmane. The team, led by Senior Police Inspector Mahesh Balkotgi, Police Inspector (Crime) Yuvraj Nandre, and Police Inspector Vijayanand Patil, also included Assistant Police Inspector Narendra Patil and Police Constables Dushing, Durge, Bhangale, Kharat, and Tarange.
