Viraj Gorasia, a member of the group, was the one who filmed the video.

“It had been raining for 3 days non-stop and landslides were predicted. On 14th September, as I began my journey towards Gangotri, I found that a 8 to 10 km long traffic had formed due to a heavy landslide,”  says Gorasia.

The police informed them that road clearing after the landslides could not be done right away, estimating it would take around 6 to 10 hours. With limited options, a group of Gujaratis chose to engage in garba to pass the time. They played garba songs as well.

As more Gujaratis joined in, they all began dancing and singing, resulting in a video that later went viral.

Approximately 40 people participated in the dancing and singing, and the festivities lasted for nearly an hour before they enjoyed some snacks.

“As a Gujju myself, this was very funny and beautiful. Random Gujjus in a very remote village united together to make the best of the time available,” adds Gorasia.

Gorasia posted the video on X, and it quickly went viral, attracting numerous comments.

One comment reads, “Navratri ki taiyari (Navratri prep),” while some say “Gujjus are the best people I have known.”

One person said, “I just know it was an aunty’s idea who thought she could get a fun and cool video out of it.”

It was truly amazing to witness strangers coming together to create a grand celebration.

In the first week of September, numerous regions in Gujarat experienced severe flooding. During that time, a post by Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, gained significant attention.

The video captured individuals engaging in the Garba dance on the submerged streets. Many parts of Gujarat were affected by heavy rains, leading to widespread flooding. Yet, despite the waterlogged roads, residents were seen joyfully performing Garba, a cherished traditional dance of Gujarat.
