Mumbai, 19th August 2024: nchise, recently found himself in the midst of controversy following his comments about the 2012 film Agneepath. In a podcast interview, Banerjee mentioned that he was initially involved in the casting process for the film, produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, but was later removed. This sparked widespread speculation. Addressing the controversy, Banerjee has now clarified his remarks, explaining that his departure from the project was due to a misunderstanding of the director’s vision, not because of any wrongdoing by Karan Johar or Dharma Productions.
Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the character Jana in Stree 2 and is also appearing in John Abraham’s film Vedaa, issued a statement on social media to explain his side of the story. He stated that his exit from Agneepath was a result of his and his colleague Anmol’s inability to fully grasp director Karan Malhotra’s vision for the film. At the time, both were in their early twenties and lacked the experience required for such a significant commercial project.
In his statement, Banerjee emphasized that he holds Karan Johar and Dharma Productions in high regard and has never accused them of any wrongdoing. He clarified that the decision to remove him from the casting process was made by Karan Malhotra’s team, and he respects that decision. He also mentioned that Dharma Productions has always treated him and his casting company, Casting Bay, well.
Banerjee’s statement further highlighted his continued successful collaboration with Dharma Productions. Despite the controversy, he remains focused on his acting career, with recent roles in Stree 2 and Vedaa, where he portrays the main villain. However, he is perhaps best known for his critically acclaimed performance as Hathoda Tyagi in the Amazon Prime Video series Paatal Lok.
