Anant Ambani’s generous donation of a 20-kg gold crown worth ₹15 crore to Mumbai’s iconic Lalbaugcha Raja made headlines during this year’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Anant Ambani, the son of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, donated a 20-kg gold crown worth ₹15 crore to Lalbaugcha Raja, one of Mumbai’s most revered Ganesh idols, during the 2024 Ganesh Chaturthi festivities. The crown was removed from the idol before the visarjan (immersion) ceremony on Wednesday morning. As the grand procession headed towards the Arabian Sea at Girgaon beach, thousands of devotees gathered for one final glimpse of the beloved deity.

The farewell procession for Lalbaugcha Raja began on Tuesday night, drawing massive crowds as it moved through the streets to the Girgaon Chowpatty for immersion. Anant Ambani was among the devotees, having visited the pandal the night before, and he joined the farewell procession as the idol was prepared for its immersion into the sea.

The Ambani family, known for their grand Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, are regular visitors to Lalbaugcha Raja. Earlier in the week, Mukesh Ambani, along with Anant Ambani, his wife Radhika Merchant and Shloka Mehta, visited the pandal to offer prayers.

Before the immersion, the spectacular gold crown, donated by Anant Ambani, was carefully dismantled from the idol. The Ambani family hosted their own Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at their South Mumbai residence, Antilia. There, their Ganesh idol, affectionately called “Antilia cha Raja,” was worshipped by close family and friends. The family’s visarjan took place over two days, with Nita Ambani, Anant Ambani, and Radhika Merchant leading the procession from Antilia to the Chowpatty Beach immersion site, traveling in a flower-adorned truck.

The celebrations saw participation from not just the extended Ambani family, including Anil and Tina Ambani. Many Bollywood stars, added to the grandeur of the event.
