“We Haven’t Focused on Population Control Since the Emergency’: Narayana Murthy on India’s Growing Crisis

During the ceremony, Murthy also emphasized the importance of personal responsibility in driving the nation’s progress. He underscored that true professionals must aspire to contribute to the country’s development by setting high goals and working diligently to achieve them. “This contribution relies on having lofty ambitions, dreaming big, and putting in the effort to make those dreams come true,” he stated.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Murthy highlighted the role of sacrifices made by the previous generation in shaping opportunities for the current one. He credited his parents, siblings, and teachers for their pivotal role in his success, saying, “One generation must make significant sacrifices to improve the lives of the next. My parents, siblings, and teachers made considerable sacrifices for my progress, and my presence here as the chief guest is a testament to the fact that their efforts were worthwhile.”

Murthy also commented on the challenges facing India’s manufacturing sector, cautioning against premature claims of becoming a global leader. He noted that China, with its vastly larger GDP, has already established itself as the world’s manufacturing hub. Additionally, he stressed the importance of improving public governance to support the success of India’s manufacturing industry.

During the convocation, a total of 1,670 degrees were awarded, with postgraduate students receiving 34 gold medals and undergraduates earning 13.
