Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Causes Havoc in Gujarat, East Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, When Will It Stop?

[ad_1]

What’s Causing the Heavy Rainfall?

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has identified a deep depression over East Rajasthan and adjoining areas of West Madhya Pradesh as the main reason for the continuous rainfall along the west coast. This weather system, which initially developed as a depression over northwest Madhya Pradesh, intensified into a deep depression by late August 25.

As of the morning of August 26, the depression was centered south-southeast of Udaipur in East Rajasthan, about 180 kilometers east of Deesa in Gujarat and 180 kilometers northeast of Ahmedabad. The IMD has forecast that the system will slowly move west-southwest, passing through southern Rajasthan and Gujarat, and is expected to reach Saurashtra, Kutch, and neighboring areas of Pakistan and the northeast Arabian Sea by the morning of August 29.

IMD’s Forecast: When Will the Rain Stop?

The IMD predicts that the heavy rainfall will persist across Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, bringing substantial rain to several districts until September 1. The weather department has also warned of a ‘high flash flood risk’ in several areas of East Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat over the next 24 hours.

In a recent bulletin, the IMD forecast light to moderate rainfall across most parts of Gujarat for the next seven days, affecting numerous districts, including Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, and in Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli. In Saurashtra-Kutch, heavy rainfall is expected in districts such as Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch, and in Diu.

Isolated regions, particularly in South Gujarat’s Navsari district, experienced exceptionally heavy rainfall on Sunday. Similar conditions were reported in Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dang, Valsad, Rajkot, and Surendranagar districts, where heavy downpours continued to impact normal life. Very heavy rainfall has been recorded in multiple districts across the Gujarat region and Saurashtra, significantly disrupting daily activities and raising concerns about further flooding and damage.

As the situation evolves, authorities and citizens are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
