On September 8, the CET cell issued notices to 12 engineering colleges for admitting students at the institutional level before the official Centralized Admission Process (CAP) was completed. The Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) is currently investigating the alleged misconduct, with a report expected to be submitted to the state CET cell soon.

“After sending notices to the involved colleges, we have directed our officials and the state technical education department to look into these allegations. We anticipate receiving the inquiry report within the next eight days. We are also waiting for responses from the colleges. So far, no similar issues have been reported in other parts of the state, and the complaints are specifically related to 12 engineering colleges in Pune,” stated Dilip Sardesai, chairperson of the state CET cell.

Sardesai mentioned that strict measures will be taken against institutions that are found to be in violation of the rules. The CET cell is responsible for overseeing the admission process in engineering colleges in Maharashtra, and the third round of admissions wrapped up on September 9. According to the admission guidelines, any vacant seats can only be filled at the institutional level after the completion of the third CAP round. However, it has been reported that several engineering colleges started admitting students before this round concluded, which goes against the CET cell’s regulations.

“We lodged a complaint with the CET cell regarding over 1,000 unauthorized admissions in various colleges in Pune. Consequently, notices were issued to 12 colleges in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. Many students who were eligible for admissions under the CAP round were denied by these colleges, even though there are 33,000 engineering seats available across the state,” said Kalpesh Yadav, joint secretary of Yuva Sena.
