Pune News: Bhama Askhed Dam Water Supply Project To Provide Additional 167 million liters Of Water Per Day To Pimpri-Chinchwad

The untreated water pumping station, approved by PCMC and located at Waki village near Wada, is 65% complete. The station will supply 167 million liters of water daily to the city once fully operational, according to the Water Supply Department.

2.80 km of the 1700 mm diameter rising main pipeline completed

A 7.30 km long, 1700 mm diameter rising main pipeline will be laid from the untreated water pumping station at Waki village to the break pressure tank at Talegaon. Of this, 2.80 km has been completed, with the remaining work ongoing.

Preliminary work for the break pressure tank completed

The water pumped from the Bhama Askhed untreated water pumping station will be transported via the 1700 mm diameter pipeline to the planned break pressure tank at Talegaon. Essential preliminary work for the break pressure tank, including soil testing and structural design, has been completed, with construction to begin soon.

8.40 km of the gravity main pipeline completed

A gravity main pipeline, 18.80 km long and 1400 mm in diameter, will carry water from the break pressure tank at Talegaon to the water treatment plant at Chikhali. Of this, 8.40 km has been completed. Work on the remaining section is progressing, and the construction of the 200 MLD water treatment plant at Chikhali is also underway. The project will treat the 167 million liters of water from the Bhama Askhed Dam to supply it to residents of Pimpri-Chinchwad.

“The PCMC is committed to providing sufficient water to its residents, with various projects under the Bhama Askhed Dam Water Supply Scheme progressing rapidly. Once completed, the projects will ensure ample water supply to the citizens.” said

“The Bhama Askhed Water Supply Scheme projects are on track to be completed within the planned timeframe, ensuring an adequate water supply for the growing population. PCMC is continuously following up on the progress of these projects, ” informed Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, Additional Commissioner, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation. 

“The Water Supply Department is making efforts to ensure that the city’s residents receive 267 MLD of water daily. The first phase of the Andra Dam Water Supply Scheme, with a 100 MLD water treatment plant, is operational. The Bhama Askhed Water Supply Scheme will add 167 MLD more, bringing the total to 267 MLD once fully operational.”, stated Pramod Ombhase, Chief Engineer, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation
