In a rally filled with passion and resolve, former corporator Amol Balwadkar took a bold stand against Chandrakant Patil, openly challenging the Higher and Technical Education Minister. Addressing a crowd of over 40,000 enthusiastic supporters, Balwadkar spoke about his frustrations with party politics and hinted at his ambition to run for the Kothrud Assembly seat in the upcoming elections.

“For years, I worked tirelessly for the party, putting in everything I had. But the moment a loyal worker like me expresses a desire to serve further, leaders start sending warnings. Why should I fear, when the blessings of the people are with me?” Balwadkar shared with the crowd, his voice resonating with sincerity.

The rally, held at High Street Ground in Balewadi, was more than just a political gathering; it was a Diwali celebration for the people of Kothrud. In a unique gesture, Balwadkar distributed festive essentials to thousands of families, symbolizing his commitment to the community.

Reflecting on the events that led to his decision to challenge his own party leadership, Balwadkar explained, “During the Lok Sabha elections, citizens came to me, saying they wanted me to step up. Over time, this became a louder call, not only from the people but from party workers too. I’ve been in this for ten years, working at the grassroots level. But when I expressed my wish to contest the Assembly seat, I started feeling the weight of resistance from those who should be supporting me.”

Despite this, Balwadkar said, he remains undeterred. “The leaders, who are focused on their own gains, have started treating me like a threat. Some have even threatened to expel me from the party. But I’m here to serve the people, not to bow down to fear. If I don’t get the party’s ticket, I’ll still find a way to be there for Kothrud’s people.”

Balwadkar admitted he hadn’t originally planned to run for office. “Six months ago, contesting the Assembly elections wasn’t even on my mind. But it was the people who inspired me to take this step, and now, with their support, I fear nothing. The people are my strength. No one can stand in the way when I have their blessings.”

In a touching moment, Balwadkar invited local citizens to join him on stage as honored guests. Among them were domestic workers, street vendors, laborers, women, and seniors—all of whom he called his “Chief Ministers” and “Deputy Chief Ministers.” His message was clear: in his view, the real leaders of Kothrud are the people who live and work there every day. The crowd cheered, visibly moved by this heartfelt tribute.

The event has since sparked buzz throughout Kothrud, with residents and political circles alike talking about Balwadkar’s remarkable show of support. His rally was more than a display of political strength, it was a celebration of the people who make up the heart of his constituency.
