New Delhi, 22nd August 2024: Apple has unveiled four new emergency features on its iPhone and Apple Watch, designed to enhance user safety during critical situations. Available on the iPhone 14, iPhone 15, Apple Watch Series 8, Apple Watch SE (2nd generation), and Apple Watch Ultra, these features include Emergency SOS, Crash Detection, Fall Detection, and Emergency SOS via Satellite. With millions of users worldwide, including India, these tools are intended to provide rapid access to emergency services and contacts, even in areas without cellular or WiFi connectivity.

Emergency SOS allows users to quickly dial local emergency numbers and share their location with authorities. In India, this can be done by pressing the side button three times or holding the side button and volume button simultaneously. Crash Detection, available on the latest iPhone and Apple Watch models, automatically calls emergency services if the device detects a severe car accident. A countdown is initiated before the call, during which an alarm sounds.

Additionally, users can set up an emergency contact through the Health app on their devices. This contact will be notified when Emergency SOS is activated. The Emergency SOS via Satellite feature, exclusive to iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models, provides emergency communication even in remote areas without traditional network coverage. Apple also offers a demo to help users familiarize themselves with this satellite feature.

These features underscore Apple’s commitment to integrating real-time security into its devices, ensuring users are protected in various scenarios. Proper knowledge of how to use these features is essential to maximize their effectiveness in emergencies.
